Literature Text

In a gust of truth, drew deep breath
On long-bound air trapped from youth
For myself the cleanest, the purest
Not that volume somewhat sterile
Found inside a pale blue delivery room

Fathoms deep in histories
My awestruck mind is strained, yet grateful
Every knee bent to mysteries and glories
Of myth and gods as early fiction
Wonder in arcs of light to early man
Who grunted down imagination for the next generation
Only to embellish as ancient fish stories

Tribal dancers circle hot invention
But a spot under the pinholed sky
Stars allowed us to see those punctures
Night as dark sheet of hide,
Awaiting the lacing twine,
And fronting luminous potential

A Primal scream through fear, a life necessity
Opportunists whom once scavenged the dead
Began extending spears to living flesh

Satisfied, we crouched and pondered efficiency
Lending us time
Time, spare, bred innovation
Then we sat upon leaf beds
Innovation brought luxury
All this time we fought
Parlayed for dominance even after comfort
Mated beast to wheel for speed
To survey our land
Have a seat in our chairs
Those eventual thrones
Thinking how best to claim it
Even as heirs
